KPV Research Guide

Comprehensive research information for laboratory professionals

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal amino acids 11–13 of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Despite its minimal size, KPV retains significant bioactive properties of the parent hormone, particularly in inflammatory signaling and epithelial barrier function. Unlike full-length α-MSH, KPV does not activate melanocortin receptors, making it a precise tool for isolating the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of the parent peptide from its metabolic and pigmentation effects. Researchers study KPV in models of macrophage inflammation, colitis, and epithelial barrier integrity.
